Dolph Lundgren Joining Arrow; Flash/Supergirl Getting Musical Crossover Episode
Damn, I really hated typing up this article. I imply, after an increasingly poor season 3 and all-around terrible season four, I was completed with Arrow. I don’t care how much of a pleasant guy star Stephen Amell is on social media, my comedian ebook fandom can only offer so much goodwill rattling it! However then these wily bastards just needed to go and add Dolph Lundgren to the upcoming season 5!
Govt producer Wendy Mericle revealed a couple of days ago on the TCA summer time tour (via EW) that the 58-year outdated action movie legend would be becoming a member of the following season as a Russian villain that will likely be showing within the show’s flashbacks, which can be set within the Motherland this season. It was revealed that the title of Lundgren’s character was really already mentioned on the present by Taiana, Oliver’s co-prisoner on Lian Yu who featured on the last season’s flashbacks.
“In our flashbacks in Russia — we’re set in Russia this season — we’re going to be bringing in Dolph Lundgren as considered one of our massive bads. He’s any individual we heard about in season four. Kovar. We are going to bring him in and he’s going to be this super large badass guy who works for the Russian government, and is not a good friend of Oliver or the Bratva. It’s a part of Oliver’s promise to Taiana at the top of season four and it’s going to be interesting as a result of it’s going to get complicated and really messed up very fast.”
Kovar is in fact the identify of a Russian character from DC Comics, but since that Leonid Kovar was truly a teenage Russian hero named Red Star, who obtained fireplace control powers gained from a crashed alien spaceship and joined the Teen Titans for a bit (and had a questionable style in eyewear), I doubt Lundgren’s character will probably be the same. Fellow executive producer Marc Guggenheim didn’t give any additional about the character, but did reveal a bit extra about Arrow‘s Russia-based mostly flashbacks.
“We always said that Oliver had a five-12 months journey when he was marooned on the [island]. This year, Oliver spends his time within the flashbacks in Russia. We know from varied seeds we planted again within the pilot that he knows how to talk Russian, he grew to become a Bratva captain. Sort of the flashback story in the first half of the year goes to contain Oliver’s introduction into the Bratva.”
Whereas I’m exceedingly joyful about Lundgren becoming a member of the forged (he will always be He-Man to me), I’m just a little peeved that it is going to be within the flashbacks. These narrative gimmicks have change into more and more dragged out and annoying, and hopefully contrived. Luckily though, Guggenheim has confirmed that this will be the final season where the present will likely be using them. Whoo hoo!
And if you’re looking for one more motive to do the completely happy dance too, it’s been revealed Arrow‘s sister reveals The Flash and Supergirl might be getting a special crossover episode. This is to not be mistaken with the giant crossover episode being planned all four DC Comics exhibits on CW – Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow – however will slightly be something else entirely. Specifically, a musical crossover episode!
As a few of you could know (and i also know, but I’m unsure I should admit in public) titular respective The Flash and Supergirl stars Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist really first acquired fans’ attention whereas solid members of Glee, so they can both sing quite properly. The musical expertise of The Flash‘s forged extends far past its lead though. Jesse L. Martin (Det. Joe West) might be the most completed of all of them as he was one among the unique stars of Broadway hit musical Rent, but Carlos Valdez (Cisco Ramon) and Rick Cosnett (Eddie Thawne), are all achieved stage musicians. Here’s a video of the three of them singing a gospel rendition of “The Ballad of Serenity” from Joss Whedon’s beloved sci-fi series, as a result of rattling it, it’s Joe West, Cisco Ramon and Eddie Thawne singing the theme tune to Firefly and its awesome.
And talking of Joss Whedon, there’s a rumour going spherical that might be incredible… if it was true. Which I’m going to say upfront it most likely isn’t – regardless that I really want it to be – however I’m going to offer you guys anyway. On the latest episode of That Hashtag Present podcast (via SR), they declare to have inside sources on the CW productions who informed them that none other than Whedon himself could be directing the crossover episode.
Of course, Whedon most famously directed his creation Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s season 6 musical episode, ‘Once More, With Feeling’, which is widely thought-about one of the best Tv collection episodes of its time. He also in fact created and teenage mutant ninja turtle sweatshirt directed acclaimed superhero-comedy-musical internet series Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, and a whole lot of other geek favorite properties. He really even directed an episode of Glee, although it was before Grant Gustin’s time on the show. What’s more, Dr. Horrible himself, and the guest star on Whedon’s Glee episode, award winning fan favourite actor Neil Patrick Harris, can also be being rumoured to be part of the present because the supervillain Music Meister. Harris already voiced Music Meister on an episode of the animated sequence Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
With all those dots being connected, I can see why it would make excellent sense for Whedon and Harris to get involved on this Flash/Supergirl musical crossover, but at this stage it is actually simply The Hashtag Show’s claims with absolutely no evidence wherever else to again it up. I completely want it to be true though.
